About Ruth Simon McRae is the founder of McRae Associates, a broad-based consultancy that offers product development, market research and color and trend forecasting services to the interiors furnishing industry. With both a domestic and international customer base, clients include flooring manufacturers, color master-batch and fiber producers. McRae is also a contributing editor for Floor Focus magazine, covering trends, industry analysis and designer perspectives. Innovations include the Convergence family of products, the first carpets to combine integrated texture with digital color placement, with Milliken Contract. The Discovery Collection, was the first group of products introduced with this technology. When not designing, Ruth enjoys teaching and has created a comprehensive course on product development for undergraduate students at Georgia Institute of Technology. She also participates in research projects and the development of educational programs concerning the development of new materials from recycled post-consumer carpet. McRae maintains an ongoing art practice. Recent work includes painting, collage, textile arts and ceramics, and has been widely exhibited in juried shows. Ruth holds an M.S. Textiles degree from Georgia Institute of Technology and a B.S. Textile Design from Philadelphia University. Her education also includes study at University for the Arts in Philadelphia and Skowhegan School of Painting and Sculpture.
